my name is
William J. Borak.
I am married to a terrific woman, Helen with two grown sons, one an attorney with Deloitte Consulting and my youngest a Sr VP with a major financial firm in NYC. I have 3 grandchildren, 2 beautiful smart and talented girls and a very athletic grandson. I am a lifelong NJ resident (2-year exception lived in Rockville, Maryland for a job relocation) and graduated from Rutgers University. I am currently retired living in a beautiful Adult Community in Monroe Township, NJ. I worked approximately 44 years in the private business sector (half of that as a full-time employee and half as an Independent Management Consultant.) The last job I retired from was with the NJ Department of Human Services, a 15- billion-dollar agency, largest in the State.
I started out there doing consulting work and after my presentation to the Commissioner and the Executive Committee, the Chief of Staff pulled me aside and offered me a permanent position. I told her do you know I am 62 years old and she no problem because “we don’t have anyone that can do what you do” and we want you to build a Project Management Office in our Central Office and build a staff so that you can manage projects in all of our 8 Divisions. I had to retire prematurely at the age of 66 due to the progression of Parkinsons Disease-I had been diagnosed 3 years earlier (I could no longer multitask and my mental acuity was definitely in decline) which was incredibly disappointing because I was next in line for the CIO position. Prior to working for the State, I was an independent Management Consultant for mostly Fortune 100 Companies (Bloomberg Financial, NBC at 30 Rock, Pfizer, Merck, Emblem Health, United Healthcare, AT&T, etc.) Subsequently, I had a wealth of experiences to draw from life, family and business. This led me to writing articles, short stories, etc. that I would periodically submit to my local newspapers or various magazines. I had two small family- oriented articles published by the Asbury Park Press as I lived in Monmouth county New Jersey at that time and one business case chapter in a technology related text book(Data Management, by Barbara von Halle and David Kull, Editors, published by Auerbach Publications, Boston and New York). I floated “Stranger on the Shore” to some of my close friends and former work colleagues to gage their interest and honest feedback on this fictional story from which I received very complimentary reviews. I collected some of their comments and suggestions and updated the story which I presented to Atmosphere Press in Manuscript format per their requirements. They loved it and with their input and polish, it was published in March of 2023. I was not overly pleased with their promoting platform and as my book gained some notoriety from various Literary organizations and critics. I started to receive a lot of inquiries from Literary Agencies, and I hooked up with two different ones over time and they republished Stranger on the Shore under my name so I would have sole rights to the book and work with their promotions team.
